The war on cancer

Thanks to our work with three clients, we at POV feel as if we've been taken to the front lines of the war on cancer. And we're encouraged by what we're seeing.

First, POV had the privilege of re-designing and developing the Web site for Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University. Winship is now one of the state's best-kept secrets, but not for long. The Institute has applied to become Georgia's first "comprehensive cancer center" as designated by the National Cancer Institute. Achieving this status would give Winship official recognition for meeting rigorous criteria for research, prevention and control.

Just this month, we completed a Brand Framework, identity and Web site for Metastatix, a start-up pharmaceutical company. Metastatix has identified a molecule that may arrest the spread of metastatic cancer.

While its research is still in the early stages, the central idea behind Metastatix is distinct among pharmaceutical companies: focusing on patients at the outset of the drug development process, rather than later. The people behind Metastatix are veteran scientists who pledge to develop small-molecule drug therapies that are easy to take and produce the fewest possible side effects. Cancer is their first priority, and their work shows great promise.

Finally, we are embarking on developing an "impact report" for the Georgia Cancer Coalition, the organization leading Georgia's war on cancer.

In just five years, the Coalition has helped generate, leverage and direct more than $1 billion toward the prevention, treatment and cure of cancer. From recruiting accomplished and respected scholars to exploring a statewide database of clinical trials, the Georgia Cancer Coalition is fighting cancer at many touch points. The "impact report" will document the Coalition's remarkable success and articulate its vision for the future.

Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Georgia is fortunate to have three such enterprises that are dedicated to winning the war, and POV considers itself lucky to do its part to help.
